Rookie Reps 2014/15
Congratulations to the junior members of the club who were selected to represent the CSJBA Cronulla East district in this seasons Rookie Reps Competition.
This year the CSJBA divided it's Rookie teams into 4 sub-regions, being north, south, east and west. The Cronulla East team was put together from only two clubs - the Sharks and the Giants. Cronulla had strong representation on the side with our 10.1's coach, Doug Regan being selected as Head Coach, being supported by Nick Gates. Cronulla players from the following Sharks club teams were selected:
Dane Penhall, Jace Dimmer, Harrison Errington, Jye Lawrence, Finn Ramanauskas, Brendan Regan, Cooper Shobrook & Tom Wiseman
The players and coaches from both teams quickly bonded well together and Coach Regan had them on a training schedule of Tuesdays and Sundays, showing commitment from both coaching staff and players alike.
The boys were first put to the test when they competed in the Warriors Tournament in November??? This day was a great experience for the boys playing in tournament conditions. They lost their first game, paying for a slow start at bat with no runs scored in the first innings. Nerves were getting the better of the boys who were chasing a lot of high balls pitched. They came home surging in front by 3 runs in the final innings, only to lose the game 11-10 after a count back due to time limitations. They settled themselves for the next 3 games, winning all 3 and putting on a convincing show, showing off their real talent. Although the first game was lost the boys cam away winners, ask any one of them, they will tell you!!
The team were put to the test again playing the 3 other CSJBA rep teams at Apsley in December???? The boys won all three games and were looking good. Coach Regan still mixing up the field to test the boys in different positions showed some talented plays in the field, but we were showing some real dominance with the bat. This team can score runs!!
After a well deserved rest in January the team had a quick preparation for the day they had been training for. Back into the swing of things with 2 training sessions a week they were ready for the big day at French's Forest against some of the best teams across Sydney.
The competition was broken up into 4 pools with each team playing 4 games against teams in their own pool. Participation is encouraged in this event so there are a lot of teams participating and we don't get to a playoff situation for a single winner on the day as there is not enough time.
It was a long day for everyone arriving at 7.30am for the first game at 8.30am. The last game was at 3.50pm finishing at 5pm. The spirit amongst players, coaches, families and spectators was vibrant and uplifting the entire day. Spirits were high.
Today was game day and Coach Regan made it clear he was going to play his A-team, he was here to win this day.....
Game 1, Innings 1, starting in the field it was a shaky start with some unlikely errors being made, but then that was it for the rest of the day (pretty much). The next innings we made an impact with solid outs and showing great hitting talent. What was making a difference for this team was the ability to score runs and the depth of batting ability. We were consistently moving runners around the bases all day with batters right through the order.
This magnificent team of Sharks and Giants boys worked together to pull off solid wins in all four games, undefeated for their pool of teams.
Congratulations to all players and coaching staff for such an outstanding performance throughout the entire programme. It has been wonderful to watch a group of talented boys develop into such a strong TEAM. The transformation has been magical to watch.
You should be proud - well done.
That's right folks, the Cronulla Association Little League Team have won the National Title and are heading to the USA to represent Australia.

The CSJBA Sharks captured the inaugural 2015 NSW U16 Senior League tournament gold medal trophy and our club's own Travis & Ryan Xuereb and Nick Gates all played big roles in the field and with their bats in getting the job done.
Having gone through the round robin games unbeaten (5-0), the team faced the one-loss Macarthur side in the grand final where Travis got the start on the mound and Nick was behind the plate. With similar results often seen on Saturdays with our 17/1s, the boys teamed up to keep the big hitting Macarthur team at bay. Final score: CSJBA 4 Macarthur 2.
Great job guys!
